For next year’s Laver Cup in Geneva, Bjorn Borg has paired Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer. The latest arrangement would witness Rafel Nadal returning back to Team Europe. In fact, the team event would be displaying the best of Europe playing against the World team.
The event is being taking place for the third time and both players who are also teammates were present for the inaugural match in 2017. However, the 17-times grand slam champion Nadal was absent next year and Novak Djokovic and Federer played for Europe team.
Team Europe’s non-playing captain Bjorn Borg stated that having Federer and Nadal on board was a support for the competition held in September. He further added that it is one of the best things for a captain to announce the name of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal for the Laver Cup.
He feels that bringing the biggest players as well as rivals under one team is one of the most appealing things for sports. It would also offer a great opportunity to win the Laver Cup three years consecutively.
Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, has been ranked first and second within the list of men’s Grand Slam winners. By bringing the champions together for the Laver Cup in Prague, Borg’s team won a doubles match in 2017.
Swiss Federer, one of the initiator of the event, stated having Nadal in the team once again after Nadal missed the second edition of Laver Cup in Chicago because of injury was an intriguing proposal. He even added that they had a lot of fun in Prague and it’s a special thing for him to get paired with Nadal in Switzerland. He added that both of them would try their best to protect their title.
Next year’s match would be taking place on a black court inside Geneva’s Palexpo venue which have around 17,000-seat.
