Novak Djokovic Defeats Rafael Nadal To Win the Australian Open Title

On Sunday (27th January), Novak Djokovic made a record by winning the Australian Open title for the seventh time. The Serb had won the Australian Open crown in 2008, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015, and 2016. This is Djokovic’s third Grand Slam in a row, after winning the Wimbledon and the US Open title.
The unrivaled Serb crushed Rafael Nadal by 6-3 6-2 6-3. In fact, Djokovoc broke the Spaniard five times at Rod Laver Arena while surrendering only a single break point in order to secure his 15th Grand Slam title.
It was the 53rd tour clash of the pair and eight in a major final. However, it wasn’t the marathon battle as it was assumed, as the powerful Djokovic shoved through the first two sets with machine-like rigor. Nadal having won only two-points off Djokovic’s first seven serve games, Nadal eventually forced a break point in the fifth game of the third to get back on serve. However, as Nadal’s action soon disappeared, in a swirl of power-strokes, Djokovic was able to finish the match within two hours.
After sealing the win on a second championship point, a frenzied Nadal fired a backhand long and Djokovic bowed in the blue court and looking at the sky shook his fist. This was followed by a roar of celebration.
Djokovic’s win helped him to move ahead of Roger Federer and Roy Emerson’s six Melbourne title and making a new record.
