A popular social networking site, Instagram has thought of hiding the like count on the images. Therefore, users won’t be able to see the number of people who have liked and tapped the ‘heart’ icon on the individual pictures. The feature that would publicly hide like counts were spotted by code hunter, Jane Manchun Wong. However, this feature hasn’t been released yet.
Jane Wong who hunts down this kind of features stated that Instagram hasn’t tested the feature on Instagram and Twitter. He stated that as per the test result Instagram wants its followers to stress on what they share and not on how many likes they receive on their posts. He stated that only the user who posted the image would be able to see the number of likes they get. Instagram stated that at this moment they are not testing the feature but only investigating or considering ways to diminish pressure on Instagram.
However, details of such testing have been revealed a few days back. It was hinted that the British Information Commissioner’s Office has suggested that social platforms, such as Snapchat and Instagram should provide the option to turn off features such as likes and streaks. These features usually motivate users to carry on posting. Hence, the agency wants to ban these factors so that it can protect the safety and privacy of the platforms’ youngest users. Well, hiding likes would, in turn, bring a great change to the way the platform works. However, it would encourage posting content that would perform well.
