More or less, New Zealand has confirmed their berth in the semi-final. The Black Caps in their latest match against the Proteas, almost knocked out South Africa of the World Cup tournament. The Kiwis recorded a four-wicket win against South Africa. This defeat literally puts an end to the chances of Proteas securing their berth in the final four spot. In fact, even in 2011 and 2015 knockout matches, it was the Kiwis who defeated the Proteas.
Skipper Kane Williamson’s unbeaten 106 helped New Zealand to an exciting win over South Africa in the last over. The partnership between Williamson and Colin de Grandhomme helped them in the run chase. Grandhomme scored swiftly 60 runs to aid New Zealand get back on track.
New Zealand bowlers presented a disciplined show and restricted the Proteas to 241/6 during their clash at Birmingham. In a rain-truncated match, the Black Caps chased a target of 242 runs in 49 overs. After a mini-slump at 137 for 5, the Kiwis recorded a winning victory by riding on the shoulders of Williamson and Grandhomme. On the other hand, Chris Morris helped South Africa back into the game by claiming three wickets including Ross Taylor, Tom Latham, and James Neesham.

This win helped the Kiwis went to the top of the points table with nine points in their kitty from five games; whereas South Africa after facing their fourth defeat in six games have very little opportunity to make it to the top four.
